This design means a lot to us here at MFS.

It features our resident FIV+ spice boy, Harvey. Harvey was rescued off the streets in awful shape. His mouth was extremely infected due to stomatitis, a condition where the body essentially attacks the root of the tooth. When we arrived at the vet we learned that Harvey has FIV.

FIV stands for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. They have a weakened immune system. This can sound scary and indeed it’s caused a lot of people (vets included) to choose euthanasia without doing much research but it’s NOT a death sentence! FIV+ cats require a little extra TLC but that’s it! Dental extraction is typically part of their journey and regular vet check ups are recommended. They can live happily with negative cats providing that everyone gets along. FIV is only transmitted through deep puncture wounds, so there’s no risk of them sharing food, bedding or litter boxes.

All cats are beautiful and deserving of a loving home, no matter their status. Let’s end the stigma around FIV and save lives!
